2009 fishing has been very good. We're getting yellowtail, cabrilla, pargo lisa, pargones, and even a few dorado. Some of them are normally here, others are unseasonably early. The pargones, cubera snapper, or "dog tooth" to some of you, are not normally seen in any numbers until May or so, but there here, fish to 35 pounds or so. I went offshore, way offshore, with Enrique last week and we had 18 dorado, no big ones, but all between 13 and 23 pounds. We located a school about 5 miles ESE of the 88 bank, probably 450 fish, and spent an hour trying to pick out the big ones. Had a blast. Great weather has been the hallmark of the last 3 weeks, but I refuse to get fooled this year, I'm sure that we'll have one more blow before Easter. El Guapo himself, named for his eyebrows, was here with his Choir Boys group, and aside from a few that I think had been away from home too long (they were in Loreto prior to La Paz), there were a lot of smiley faces. We had the pleasure of E.G. for a carne asada dinner at the house, and he reigned benevolently as always over the festivities.
For later on this year we are already booking Mag Bay. The last two years have provided some of the best fishing that I've ever had the pleasure to, and this year should be more of the same. This is a live aboard situation. Fly into La Paz, and we'll take over from there. October through January. Ground transport to San Carlos, onto the boat for 4 days of fishing, great meals (lobster and scallops are local and plentiful), tuna, yellowtail, wahoo, and the best striped marlin fishing on the planet. Best to book it through Cass, give the girls a call for reservations, or if you want to talk to me about the details of the trip, feel free, and then book with Cass. My number is 1-408-884-3932.
